CVC & Collectables presents this 88 BC Roman Republic Lentulus Clodianus AR Denarius, certified by ANACS as Very Fine 25. A coin from early Roman Republic, also well known as the Roman Empire. The Roman Republic was not as big as it was yet it but had land in different parts in modern day Italy.

On the obverse of this intriguing coin, you’ll discover the helmeted bust of Mars wearing Corinthian helmet, seen from behind with head turned right, spear over left shoulder and parazonium over right shoulder; denomination mark below chin. While the reverse depicts Winged Victory in biga right, holding reins in left hand and wreath in right hand raised.

Gnaeus Cornelius Lentulus Clodianus born into the plebeian Claudii Marcelli family, rose to prominence through adoption into the patrician Cornelii Lentuli and became a staunch ally with Pompey the Great. His political ascent, marked by a praetorship and a consulship, intertwined with efforts to safeguard Pompey’s interests, from legal reforms in Hispania to battling the infamous slave revolt led by Spartacus. Despite suffering defeats that momentarily shadowed his career, Clodianus rebounded, serving as censor to purge and reform the Senate, and later playing a pivotal role in Rome’s maritime security against pirates under Pompey’s command. Known for his oratory skills, albeit with a flair for showmanship, Clodianus’s journey from plebeian roots to influential statesman encapsulates the turbulent and dynamic nature of Roman political and military life.

With its ANACS certification guaranteeing its Very Fine condition, this AR Denarius offers you a tangible connection to the enigmatic Ancient Roman Republic and the historical tapestry of its Republic.
