CVC & Collectibles proudly presents the 1736-MO MF Mexico Pillar 8 Reales coin, a remarkable piece of numismatic history. This coin was minted in Mexico during the 18th century and holds both cultural and monetary significance.
Being apart of the Reijgesdaal Shipwreck which sank on October 25, 1747, between Robben and Dassen Islands. After a four-and-a-half months voyage at sea, the crew had anchored there to fetch rock rabbits or “dassies” and fresh food to relieve massive illness on board the ship. Which about 125 had died from and 83 were incapacitated out of 297 total crew.But even during harsh times, the anchor-line snapped and the ship found itself on against rocks. Only 20 survived the sinking, and only one incomplete chest with coins was recovered while the rest were left at sea.
The obverse of the coin features a striking depiction of the Spanish coat of arms, while the reverse showcases the iconic Pillars of Hercules, with two globes and waves. The intricate design and fine details reflect the skilled craftsmanship of the era.
