Historical Significance

Released on July 19, 1999, the Georgia State Quarter followed Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey as the fourth entry in the Statehood series, honoring Georgia’s status as the fourth state to ratify the Constitution in 1788.

The design emphasizes Georgia’s “Peach State” identity, the live oak as the official state tree, and the long-standing state motto “Wisdom, Justice, Moderation,” chosen to reflect balanced civic virtues. Together, these elements make the quarter a compact tribute to Georgia’s culture, agriculture, and political heritage.

Collectibility

With nearly 489 million pieces struck at Denver, the 1999-D Georgia quarter is common in circulation but remains a must-have first-year State Quarter.

Collectors target bright, original Mint State examples with strong luster, clean fields, and crisp detail in the peach, oak leaves, and motto banner. Popular errors on Georgia quarters include missing clad layers, off-center strikes, and dramatic clips—giving roll and bag hunters added upside beyond face value.
