Historical Significance
Gettysburg marks the Union victory in the summer of 1863, often described as a turning point of the Civil War, with approximately 51,000 casualties and enduring ties to Abraham Lincoln’s most famous address. The battlefield preservation effort began in 1864, and the land later transferred to the federal government—forming Gettysburg National Military Park in 1895.
Collectibility
The 2011-P issue has a reported mintage of 30,800,000, making it an affordable album coin while still popular with ATB set builders and Civil War–themed collections. The U.S. Mint also produced proof versions and a separate 5-ounce silver coin for Gettysburg, but this listing is for the standard Philadelphia circulation strike quarter.
