2025 Dr. Vera Rubin Quarter

The 2025 Dr. Vera Rubin Quarter is part of the U.S. Mint’s American Women Quarters Program, honoring trailblazing women who have significantly contributed to American history. Dr. Vera Rubin, a pioneering astronomer renowned for her groundbreaking work on galaxy rotation and dark matter, is among the distinguished figures commemorated in 2025.​

Design Details:

• Obverse (Heads):

  • Features a portrait of George Washington, originally designed by Laura Gardin Fraser in 1931. This design was chosen for the 1932 quarter commemorating Washington’s bicentennial. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2025.”​

• Reverse (Tails):

  • Depicts Dr. Vera Rubin gazing at a spiral galaxy, symbolizing her contributions to astronomy and the study of dark matter. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “DR. VERA RUBIN,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”​​

About Ida B. Wells:

Ida B. Wells (1862–1931) was a pioneering African American journalist, educator, and early leader in the civil rights movement. She was a founding member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and is renowned for her courageous reporting on the violence and injustices faced by African Americans, particularly her anti-lynching crusade.
