Overview: Indian & Lincoln Cents

Indian Head cents and Lincoln cents are two types of U.S. one-cent coins that have been in circulation at different times.

Indian Coins

Indian Head cents were first minted in 1859 and were produced until 1909. They feature a portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a headdress with the word “Liberty” inscribed above her head. The reverse of the coin features a wreath and the words “One Cent” inside a laurel wreath.

Lincoln Coins

Lincoln cents were first minted in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth. They feature a portrait of Lincoln on the obverse and two wheat ears on the reverse until 1958. Since then, the reverse has featured the Lincoln Memorial until 2008, when it was replaced with a design featuring the Union Shield.

Indian & Lincoln Cents

Both Indian Head cents and Lincoln cents have a face value of one cent and are made of copper or copper alloy. However, some rare varieties and mint errors can have significant value to collectors. The value of these coins depends on several factors, including rarity, condition, and demand from collectors. Some rare Indian Head cents can be worth thousands of dollars, while most Lincoln cents are only worth their face value.

We have a selection of Indian & Lincoln Cents. You can find many more Indian & Lincoln Cents on our website.
