CVC & Collectables presents the 1909 Lincoln Wheat Cent in About Uncirculated (AU) condition — a first-year issue that helped launch one of the most iconic coin series in American history. This version was minted in Philadelphia after the U.S. Mint removed designer Victor David Brenner’s “V.D.B.” initials from the reverse, making it a distinct and historically important variety.

 Historical Significance

The 1909 Lincoln cent commemorated the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birth and became the first U.S. coin to feature a real historical figure. Initially released with the designer’s initials prominently displayed, this non-VDB version followed soon after in response to public criticism, creating two distinct collectible types in the same year.
