CVC & Collectables presents the 1909 Lincoln Wheat Cent in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition — a historic first-year issue without the “V.D.B.” initials. This version was issued shortly after the U.S. Mint removed the designer’s initials from the reverse due to public controversy, making it an important companion to the VDB variety in any Lincoln cent collection.

Historical Significance

Struck during the same year as the famous VDB variety, this version of the 1909 Lincoln cent was issued after the removal of designer Victor David Brenner’s initials. The decision was made in response to public criticism over the initials’ prominent placement. As a result, two distinct types exist for 1909, both of which are highly collectible.
