Historical Significance
Released on May 17, 1999, the New Jersey quarter was the third State Quarter and honors New Jersey as the third state to ratify the Constitution in 1787. The “Crossroads of the Revolution” theme recalls the December 25–26, 1776 crossing of the Delaware and the subsequent victories at Trenton and Princeton, key turning points that cemented New Jersey’s reputation as a strategic hub of Revolutionary War activity.
Collectibility
With over 363 million pieces struck, the 1999-P New Jersey quarter is plentiful in circulation but remains a cornerstone of any 50 State Quarters collection as an early, historically rich design.
Collectors seek bright BU examples with strong luster, clean fields, and sharp detail in the boat, flags, and soldiers. Error specialists prize this issue for dramatic off-center strikes, double strikes, clips, and grease-filled dies that soften details—varieties documented across 1999 New Jersey quarter production.
