The 2000-P Library of Congress Silver Dollar Proof is a commemorative coin issued by the U.S. Mint to celebrate the bicentennial of the Library of Congress. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, with a total weight of 26.73 grams (0.859 troy ounces), containing approximately 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver .​

Design Details:

  • Obverse: Features an open book superimposed over the torch of learning, symbolizing knowledge and enlightenment. Designed by Thomas D. Rogers.​

  • Reverse: Depicts the dome of the Library of Congress’ Jefferson Building, designed by John Mercanti.​

Mintage and Packaging:

The U.S. Mint authorized a maximum mintage of 500,000 coins. Of these, 198,503 proof coins were produced . Each coin was originally issued in a U.S. Mint presentation box accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (COA).​
