Historical Significance
The Virginia State Quarter honors Jamestown, founded in 1607 as the first permanent English settlement in North America. The three-ship design captures the voyage that began England’s enduring presence in the New World and laid groundwork for later colonies and, ultimately, the United States. As the 10th coin released in the 50 State Quarters Program and the final design of the year 2000, it highlights Virginia’s long-standing role in colonial, Revolutionary, and early U.S. history.
Collectibility
Despite its very high mintage, the 2000-P Virginia quarter is essential for any complete State Quarters collection. Collectors look for sharp, lustrous examples with minimal contact marks, which are much scarcer than typical circulated pieces. It pairs naturally with the 2000-D Denver issue and the 2000-S clad and silver proofs to form a four-coin Virginia set centered on the popular Jamestown ships design.
