Historical Significance

Released on January 31, 2006, the Nevada State Quarter honors the 36th state, admitted to the Union on October 31, 1864. The design highlights Nevada’s famous wild mustang herds, extensive sagebrush ranges, and mountainous western landscape—key elements of the state’s frontier identity since the days of the Comstock Lode and early settlers. The “Silver State” banner nods directly to Nevada’s rich silver-mining heritage, which played a major role in financing the Union during the Civil War.

Collectibility

As the first 2006 issue and 36th State Quarter overall, the 2006-P Nevada coin is essential for a complete 50 State Quarters run. With 277 million pieces struck it’s readily available, but bright Uncirculated examples with full luster and sharp detail in the horses, sagebrush, and rays of the sun really stand out in modern albums. Variety and error hunters also watch this design for dramatic reverse die chips, including the popular “pooping horse” die-chip variety on the trailing mustang, which adds a fun specialty angle when found in strong condition.
