The obverse features John Flanagan’s portrait of George Washington, updated for the State Quarters Program with modified inscriptions. The reverse depicts a bison skull floating above Montana’s mountain landscape, accompanied by the inscription “Big Sky Country.” This design reflects Montana’s western heritage, abundant wildlife, and vast open landscapes.
