Historical Significance
Located on Sullivan’s Island in Charleston Harbor, Fort Moultrie is part of Fort Sumter National Monument and played a vital role in America’s coastal defense from the Revolutionary War through World War II. Fort Moultrie is closely associated with the opening chapter of the Civil War, when Union forces relocated from Fort Moultrie to Fort Sumter in 1860.
Collectibility
The 2016-P Fort Moultrie Quarter is popular among America the Beautiful collectors and Civil War history enthusiasts. Circulated examples are common, while uncirculated coins with sharp detail and original luster are preferred for complete date-and-mint sets.
