The 2020-S Lincoln Cent is part of the annual U.S. Mint proof coinage program. It features Victor David Brenner’s Lincoln portrait on the obverse, with LIBERTY, the date, and IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse features the Union Shield with E PLURIBUS UNUM, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and ONE CENT. Lyndall Bass designed the modern Shield reverse.
The S mintmark identifies the San Francisco Mint, where the proof coin was produced. The 2020-S proof Lincoln Cent was struck in a copper-plated zinc composition rather than the bronze composition used for Lincoln Cents before 1982.
The reported mintage for the 2020-S Shield proof Lincoln Cent is 827,974. This figure represents the individual cent issue rather than simply the number of complete proof sets sold.
