The esteemed Presidential $1 Coin Program pays homage to former U.S. presidents. Each year, the U.S. Mint releases four new coins featuring portraits of these presidents on the obverse, accompanied by the Statue of Liberty on the reverse. The program restricts eligibility to deceased presidents.
Controversially, the motto “In God We Trust” was initially placed on the coin’s edge. However, due to some 2007 Presidential dollars lacking edge lettering, the U.S. Mint relocated the motto to the obverse.
