In 2009, The Native American $1 Coin Act mandated the introduction of three new reverse designs for the Sacagawea coins. Sacagawea dollars have a core composed of pure copper and an outer layer made of 77% copper, 12% zinc, 7% manganese, and 4% nickel. Each coin measures 26.5 mm in diameter and weighs 8.1 grams. They were minted at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints.
