Historical Significance:
The Bicentennial Eisenhower Dollar was part of the special redesign program created for America’s 200th anniversary. Rather than the standard Apollo 11 reverse used on earlier Eisenhower Dollars, the Mint introduced a patriotic commemorative design selected through a national competition.
The 1976-S silver issues were produced specifically for collectors and were never released into general circulation. These coins also represent the final years of the Eisenhower Dollar series, the last large-size dollar coin struck by the United States Mint for circulation purposes.
Collectibility:
The 1976-S 40% Silver Eisenhower Dollar remains a favorite among modern U.S. coin collectors due to its substantial size, silver content, and historic Bicentennial design. Brilliant Uncirculated examples with strong luster and original government packaging continue to see strong collector demand, especially alongside matching Bicentennial silver quarter and half dollar issues.
