About Fort McHenry
Located in Baltimore, Maryland, Fort McHenry played a pivotal role during the War of 1812. In September 1814, the fort successfully withstood a 25-hour British bombardment during the Battle of Baltimore. Witnessing the American flag still flying above the fort the following morning inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem that later became the lyrics of the United States national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner.
Collectibility
With a final collector mintage of 19,802 pieces, the 2013-P Fort McHenry is a popular issue among both America the Beautiful collectors and history enthusiasts. Its patriotic design, connection to the national anthem, and relatively limited mintage make it a standout release in the ATB series. Examples accompanied by their original U.S. Mint box and Certificate of Authenticity are especially desirable for complete collections.
