Design
Obverse: Features John Flanagan’s enduring portrait of George Washington, based on the original Washington Quarter design introduced in 1932.
Reverse: Depicts George Rogers Clark leading his men through the flooded plains approaching Fort Sackville during the 1779 Vincennes Campaign. The dramatic design captures the determination and hardship faced by Clark and his forces. Inscriptions include “GEORGE ROGERS CLARK,” “INDIANA,” “2017,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
About George Rogers Clark National Historical Park
Located in Vincennes, Indiana, George Rogers Clark National Historical Park commemorates Clark’s successful capture of Fort Sackville during the American Revolutionary War. His victory secured control of the Illinois Country and strengthened the United States’ claim to the Northwest Territory, a region that would later become several Midwestern states. The park’s memorial stands on the site of the former fort and honors Clark’s pivotal contribution to American independence.
Collectibility
With a final collector mintage of just 15,836 pieces, the 2017-P George Rogers Clark is one of the lower-mintage issues in the America the Beautiful series. Its Revolutionary War theme, historical significance, and limited mintage make it a desirable addition for both ATB collectors and American history enthusiasts. Examples accompanied by their original U.S. Mint box and Certificate of Authenticity remain especially popular among collectors assembling complete sets.
