Historical Significance
The Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site commemorates the first African American military aviators in the U.S. Armed Forces. Trained at Moton Field in Alabama, the Tuskegee Airmen overcame racial barriers while serving with distinction during World War II. The coin’s reverse inscription, “THEY FOUGHT TWO WARS,” recognizes their battle against enemies abroad and discrimination at home.
Collectibility
As the final issue of the America the Beautiful 5 oz series, the 2021-P Tuskegee Airmen holds a unique place in modern U.S. numismatics. Its status as the concluding release, combined with a collector mintage of just 19,819 pieces, has made it one of the most sought-after modern 5 oz silver issues. Complete examples with the original U.S. Mint box and COA remain especially desirable among ATB collectors.
