The obverse features the Purple Heart medal surrounded by five stars representing the five branches of the U.S. military. The inscriptions include “COMBAT WOUNDED & KILLED IN ACTION,” “LIBERTY,” “1932,” “2022,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

The reverse depicts a World War I nurse bandaging a wounded servicemember on a stretcher, recognizing the service of the more than 23,000 women nurses who served in the Army and Navy during World War I.
