CVC & Collectables presents this AD 235-238 Roman Empire, Maximinus I, AR Denarius, Rev Providentia Standing NGC AU. The obverse depicts the bust of Maximinus I, laureate, draped, cuirassed, right. Reverse depicts Providentia standing left, holding wand over globe and cornucopia.

Maximinus born in AD 179 to 238. He was first soldier who rose through the ranks to become Roman emperor. In 238 a group of landowners in Africa, grew mad with imperial taxation, rebelled, killed their tax collectors. Then proclaimed the aged Gordian emperor. The revolt was soon suppressed by the governor of Numidia.

However, The Roman Senate had used the revolt as an excuse to depose Maximinus and recognize Gordian, and they responded to Gordian’s defeat and death by proclaiming two new emperors, Pupienus and Balbinus.
