He ruled from AD 527 to 565, is renowned for his efforts to restore the glory of the Roman Empire.  Also well-known as one of the greatest generals in the roman army, when Emperor Anastasius died, he outplayed his rivals and was elected as the successor, despite being around the age of 68 years old.
