Historical Significance
-
The Franklin Half Dollar series (1948–1963) was the first circulating U.S. coin to depict a non-president Founding Father.
-
The 1963 issue marked the series’ final year before the design was replaced by the Kennedy Half Dollar in 1964, following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
-
With proof mintages limited to 3,075,645 coins, the 1963 proof half dollar remains highly collectible, particularly in near-perfect grades.
